Advisory meeting

The Case for Working With Us

What we bring to the table, and what we deliberately leave out.

The value of advisory work depends entirely on the conditions under which it is delivered. Independence matters. Seniority matters. So does the discipline of writing things down.

At a Glance

Six things that shape every engagement

True independence

No products. No platforms. No preferred partners. Our advice is not shaped by what we might sell you next.

Written output

Every engagement produces a document. Not slides, not a verbal summary — a written deliverable you can share and return to.

Senior delivery

The person who accepts the mandate does the work. No handoffs to junior staff midway through an engagement.

ASEAN grounding

Our frameworks are built on direct experience of the Malaysian and regional business environment, not imported templates.

Full discretion

Client names and engagement details are never shared or used in marketing. Confidentiality is structural, not optional.

Fixed scope

Each engagement is scoped at the outset with a clear deliverable. No open-ended retainers, no scope creep.

Expertise

Advisory work grounded in direct experience

The advisers at Pelangi Strategy came from careers within corporate finance, regulatory practice, and senior management roles in Malaysian and regional businesses. This is not theoretical expertise — it is familiarity with the actual conditions and decision-making environments that our clients operate within.

  • Twelve-plus years of Malaysian corporate advisory experience
  • Direct familiarity with ASEAN regulatory frameworks across six jurisdictions
  • Prior work at institutional and independent advisory levels
"The most useful thing an outside adviser can do is tell you what they actually think, rather than what keeps the engagement running."

Pelangi Strategy — approach statement

How an engagement unfolds

  1. 1Initial conversation — we discuss your situation and whether an engagement makes sense
  2. 2Scope agreement — we define what we will deliver, by when, and at what fee
  3. 3Material review — we work through documents, conduct interviews, and build our analysis
  4. 4Delivery — we present and discuss the written deliverable with the relevant principals

Process

A clear process from the first conversation to the final document

We do not begin substantive work until the scope is agreed. We do not extend an engagement without a separate conversation. This keeps both parties clear on what is happening and why, and it prevents the gradual erosion of focus that tends to undermine advisory work over time.

Client Experience

How we engage with clients

We treat clients as principals making deliberate decisions, not as prospects to be managed through a sales process. Initial conversations are direct and honest — if we do not think we can be useful, we say so. If we think a different kind of help is needed, we try to point toward it.

  • All correspondence handled by senior advisers, not support staff
  • Clear communication at each stage of the engagement
  • Findings delivered in person where practicable, followed by written record

We will tell you whether we think you should proceed, slow down, or reconsider — not what you might prefer to hear.

Governance findings are delivered first to the chairperson or senior partner, before any wider circulation.

We work to agreed timelines and flag any change of circumstances promptly.

Distinctive Features

What sets our engagements apart

The Reading Session model

Founders rarely have a colleague senior enough to read their strategic documents critically and ask the right questions in person. The Reading Session fills that gap. It is an engagement type we designed specifically for that need, and we do not know of a direct equivalent offered elsewhere in the Malaysian market.

Governance findings first to the chair

Our governance review findings are delivered first to the chairperson or most senior partner, before any wider circulation. This reflects the sensitivity of the work and allows the principal to consider the findings before deciding how to proceed internally.

Proceed / slow down / reconsider

Our market entry brief concludes with a clear directional judgment — whether a particular firm should proceed into a new jurisdiction, slow down to address specific gaps, or reconsider the move entirely. This is not a country report; it is a view formed about that specific firm's readiness.

Draft revised governance memorandum

The governance review includes a draft revised governance memorandum — a practical document the firm can work with directly, rather than a set of recommendations that then require further work to become actionable.
